Frequently Asked Questions

What Can I Expect From Therapy?

If this is your first time coming to therapy, congratulations! I’m excited for you that you are committing to cultivating better mental health. Your treatment is tailored to you. A typical session may look like reviewing recent events, exploring your responses to suggested activities/exercises between sessions, and honing in on one or more of your goals. I’m pretty flexible and can adjust many things to help you feel more at ease - I welcome your feedback and will often ask for it! It is important to note that therapy is a participatory experience - the more you are applying what you have learned between appointments, the more results you will see.

How Long Does Therapy Last?

Ideally, you would be able to participate in therapy for as long as you feel it is beneficial to you! Sometimes my clients have 3-6 sessions and others stay with me much longer. In some cases, things may come up in treatment that I feel may require specialized care out of my scope of practice or may be inappropriate to treat through telehealth (such as substance use, eating disorders, suicidal behavior or psychosis), and I would link you with appropriate providers.

Why Do You Only Provide Telehealth?

My choice to be a telehealth only provider is intentional. Research indicates telehealth can be just as effective as traditional face to face therapy. Because I am able to offer online mental healthcare to anyone in New Jersey, many barriers can be avoided. Online therapy can be more convenient and affordable, because it saves you the time and energy that otherwise would be spent traveling to an office. Additionally, I am able to offer more affordable care due to not having to maintain a physical location.

What Do I Need For Telehealth?

All you need is a device with video/audio capabilities (phone, tablet or laptop), a stable WiFi connection, and a quiet private space. This space can be your bedroom, your parked car, your office with a closed door at work - wherever works for you, as long as you’re physically in New Jersey! The company of pets and your favorite tea are encouraged!

What Modalities Do You Use?

I align with you to tailor interventions to your need. My trauma-informed approach mostly draws from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I integrate evidenced-based and Mindfulness interventions in support of changing patterns of thoughts or behaviors that may be trapping you in pain.

What Is Your Availability?

Please contact me and I’d be happy to give you an updated picture of my current openings. Along with my practice, I am a part of an organization providing therapy and teaching Mindfulness practices to adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression and burnout. Despite my evolving schedule, I want you to know that should we choose to work together, I deeply honor that commitment.

What Is An Intake?

If after our consultation call we decide we’re a good fit, I will send you paperwork to be completed before your first appointment. Your first visit or “intake” will be used to review consent for treatment forms and other paperwork, gather background information, identify your current concerns, and come up with some initial goals to guide how you want to spend your time in session. We’ll talk about what length of session and frequency would suit you best.

Will I Get Reminders For My Appointments?

You will receive a text and email reminder 48 hours before your appointment which will give you the option to confirm or reschedule. If you do not respond, your appointment is considered confirmed.

What Is Your Cancellation Policy?

I respect your time and will only ask you to reschedule if it’s an absolutely unavoidable situation - emergencies are very uncommon. I hope that you would offer me the same respect and courtesy by arriving on time to your appointment and providing as much advance notice as possible. I keep a 24 hour cancellation policy, meaning any no shows or appointments cancelled with less notice are subject to my full rate for that service which will be charged to your credit card on file. We’ll review more in depth during our intake session.

Do You Accept Insurance?

I am in network with Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Oxford Health Plans, Optum, Horizon Blu Cross Blue Shield, Cigna and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Please check with me about my current in-network status.

How Do I Use Out Of Network Benefits?

Please check with your plan to verify your Out Of Network benefits. Here are some questions to help navigate this:

  • What is my out-of-network deductible for outpatient mental health?

  • What is my out-of-network coinsurance for outpatient mental health?

  • Do I need a referral from an in-network provider to see someone out-of-network?

  • How do I submit claim forms for reimbursement?

Why Choose Self-Pay?

Some people choose to not link their mental healthcare with their insurance due to concerns about confidentiality, flexibility, and limits on which providers you can see. Insurance companies require diagnoses and other information about your care to be submitted, meaning this becomes a part of your permanent medical record. Insurance companies can dictate the number of sessions they will cover and at times stop coverage if it is deemed “not medically necessary.” Choosing Self Pay frees you from the stipulations set forth by insurance companies. Subject to availability, I am able to offer a reduced fee for those who prefer self-pay (based on income).

What are your fees?

As a telehealth only provider, I am able to offer my services at a lower rate because I am able to avoid many of the costs of maintaining a physical location. My service rates are competitive and payment is required at the time of service via secured credit or debit transaction.

Intake Assessment: $175

60 Minute sessions: $150

45 Minute sessions: $125

Subject to availability, I am also able to offer a reduced fee. If you choose Self Pay, I will provide you a Good Faith Estimate so you know exactly what costs to expect.

Do You Prescribe Medicine?

No. Medication can only be prescribed through a medical doctor (such as your primary care provider or a psychiatrist).

What are your hours?

Because I provide therapy services in other settings in addition to my practice, my schedule is always evolving. However, my regular hours for my practice are Mondays to Thursdays 9am - 5pm. I am not available evenings or weekends.
